Gray sits just far enough west of Houma on US-90 to feel like its own place, even without its own city limits sign. It’s a patchwork: brand-new subdivisions going up on former cane fields sit a half-mile from older camps and ranch homes that have been there for decades.

Same town, two very different move types

A move in a new Gray subdivision usually means wide streets, HOA rules about truck access, and a garage full of unopened boxes from the last move. An older Gray home is the opposite: narrow gravel drives, sheds full of decades of gear, and furniture that hasn’t left the house since it was built.

A lot of the newer Gray subdivisions sit on drained former cane land, which means fresh sod, young trees still staked with wire, and driveways that haven’t seen a moving truck’s full weight yet. We back in carefully so we’re not the reason a brand-new driveway cracks in its first year.

  • New-build subdivisions off US-90
  • Older camp-style homes on larger lots
  • Properties bordering Bayou Black

We also see plenty of families relocating from Gray into Houma proper for a shorter commute, so our crews know the reverse route just as well as the trip out.

Dominic Verdin’s crew has worked both ends of Gray in the same week. See our full list of routes we run in and out of the area.

Hurricane-season planning note: Houma sits where Bayou Terrebonne, Bayou Black, and the Houma Navigation Canal all come together, so our crews watch the tide charts and the low ground from Chauvin down to Dulac as closely as the weather report, and every truck carries extra tarps and moisture barriers for the humidity and the hurricane-season storms that roll off the Gulf from June through November.

Our Services

A one-room load in Bayou Cane and a full house headed out to Atlanta both start with the same nine-service lineup and the same crew roster — nothing gets handed off partway through.

Local Houma Moves

Gray gets the same crew as Bayou Blue -- load it, drive it, set it down, done inside a day regardless of which end of the parish you're on.

Long-Distance & Interstate Moves

Six lanes cover most of what leaves the state from here: Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Jackson, Mobile, Memphis. Whoever wraps it at the yard rides along and carries it in at the other end.

Residential Moves

A Schriever starter home and a bigger Bourg house get the exact same care -- nothing gets set down until you say where it goes.

Apartment & Multi-Family Moves

Elevators booked, move-in windows confirmed -- our crews have worked enough Thibodaux and Raceland complexes to know the routine before we ever knock.

Learn More →

Full-Service Packing

Glassware, mirrors, electronics -- everything gets wrapped against the humidity before it's boxed, whether that's one room in Chauvin or a whole house in Dulac.

Learn More →

Short-Term Storage

Waiting out a closing date in Cut Off or riding out hurricane season before Golden Meadow's ready -- either way, the storage stays dry until you need it back.

Learn More →

Piano Moving

Raised camp in Montegut, slab house in Gibson, doesn't matter -- moving an upright or a baby grand across the bayou just takes the right straps and a crew that's done it before.

How A Job Actually Runs

What To Expect

A Houma move breaks down into four stages, start to finish — here is what each one looks like.

1

Kim Walks The Job With You

Most of it happens over the phone — stairs, a stilt-house landing, storm-season flexibility, whatever's actually in the house — before she puts a number to it.

2

Jerome Locks In The Paperwork

Coverage, certificate of insurance if a leasing office needs one, and the final number all get confirmed before the crew is dispatched, not worked out after the fact.

3

Wade Or Dominic Runs The Crew

Whichever one is on your job, furniture gets wrapped before anything is carried through a doorway, stairwell, or stilt-house ramp.

4

Setup, Not Just A Drop-Off

Beds get reassembled, boxes land in the room they're labeled for, and the crew takes the packing debris with them on the way out.

Why Houma Keeps Booking Us

Same Crew Chiefs, Year After Year

Wade has run the long-distance side since 2014 and Dominic has led local jobs since 2017 — ask either one about a route or a neighborhood and they'll know it firsthand, not from a training binder.

Stilt Houses And Storm Season Are Normal Here

A piano down a raised staircase, a closing date that slips because of a storm watch, a driveway that floods after a hard rain — none of that throws off the schedule, because it's what most weeks look like in Terrebonne Parish.

One Crew, Start To Finish

Wade's crew loads the truck on Barrow Street and is still the one unloading it whether the drop-off is a short hop to Mobile or the two-day haul up to Atlanta.

What Our Clients Say

★★★★★

“Getting Grandma's old upright down a narrow Larose stairwell sounded like a disaster waiting to happen, but the two guys who showed up had clearly done this before β€” straps, a dolly, and maybe fifteen minutes of careful work.”

Brittany RobichauxLarose · Yelp
★★★★

“Had my own truck already lined up for a Cut Off move and just needed hands to fill it. Two guys showed up, loaded it better than I expected, and were done in under two hours β€” running about twenty minutes behind schedule was the only hiccup.”

Shawn OrdoyneCut Off · Google
★★★★★

“Moved us from Bayou Cane to Houston for my husband's new job. Blaine called before pickup and again before delivery so we knew where the truck was the whole way.”

Questions We Get Most

Bayou Moving answers these on nearly every call from Houma, LA.

Do you charge differently for a new subdivision move versus an older camp-style home?

The quote reflects the actual job β€” subdivision moves are usually faster with easy truck access, while older Gray homes can take longer due to sheds, gravel drives, or tighter yards. We price what's actually there.

Can your trucks get down the older gravel roads near Bayou Black?

In most cases yes; for a few tighter drives we'll bring a smaller truck for the last stretch.
